Haven't had a "Notes from Home" post in a long time. These are emails I receive occasionally from Jan about Bella since he stays home with her most of the time. They offer a little insight into our weird dog and the sometimes even weirder mind of my husband.

It's been a while since I've made an entry in the "Notes from Home" collection. These are the little emails I've received from Jan over the years as he works from home with Bella as his companion.
In light of the high winds advisory we had blasting through Massachusetts over the weekend, this seemed an appropriate time to bring this one out of the closet.
You've probably all seen this video that was making the rounds last year of a cat foolishly, er, bravely protecting his food, er, family from a trespassing bear.
This was Jan's (rather unique) perspective on it:

Jan: Ok, let's get this straight. This cat is attacking a bear. Our dog is afraid of the wind.
Perspective: it's all in how you see it.
* No animals were harmed in the making of this video. And, while personally I'd be screaming bl**dy murder if that were my cat, it's not like they deliberately put the cat in danger. The darn cat did that all by himself.
It's been a while since we've had an installment in our "Notes from Home" collection. With winter approaching, we were learning some new things about our 'hot-blooded' pup.

Jan: The dog is curled up on the bed.
Just for jollies, I wrapped her in the heavy blanket earlier.
Thirty minutes later, she is still snuggled under the blanket.
What did you expect? I'm from Puerto Rico and you people have SNOW here!
Wait, where ya' going? My shoulder's untucked... Come back! Please?
Some of Jan's notes from home have been shorter than others. This one, while brief, still managed to say all that needed to be said.
You might remember that Bella had "discovered" an old stuffie toy that belonged to my Lab, Beau. For those of you who might have pondered Frosty's fate, I give you the latest installment of "Notes from home".

Jan: The tail has hardly stopped since I came home. She has discovered Frosty -- one of Beau's old sqeaky toys. Our worry about her not knowing how to play with toys was silly. She is carrying it around in between some serious exploring.
Leslie: Isn't Frosty as big as she is?
Jan: Yeah, Frosty is about as big as she is. However, many of the other toys she has since discovered (including your slippers) are smaller.
Leslie: Hrumph. She's not supposed to play with those. :(
One of the reasons we were able to adopt such a young dog (still a puppy really) was the fact that Jan could be home with her after a heart-attack and subsequent bypass surgery sent him in to early semi-retirement.
I confess to being a little jealous that he got to spend his days with her while I trudged off to the office so he offered up little notes throughout the day to fill me in on things and all of Bella's antics. It didn't take long for me to realize I had the easy part of this dog-raising equation.
I envision these brief little interludes being an on-going feature of the blog. I hope you enjoy his reflections on "Bringing up Bella" as much as I do.
