A little Puppy Bowl fascination (video)

I'm still working on the next installment of Thunderstorms for Scared-y Dogs but in the meantime, I thought I'd share a few moments of cute from Puppy Bowl Sunday. :)

Yup, Bella was fascinated with the puppies but she was also 'stressed' about having 'uninvited guests' in her TV.

Any other pups out there enjoy the games this weekend?

  1. Aw, Finn loves watching other dogs on tv too, but this weekend, there was no sharing the tv with football-loving Pops.  Nice video!

  5. When Cali was a puppy we used to laugh when she barked at the dogs on TV . .but now, 13 years later, it's not quite as cute ;) It doesn't matter if it's a cartoon dog or a real dog . .she is determined to get them OUT of her living room!!

  6. Elka doesn't pay much attention to a TV when it's on, other than if a baby cries. Then she gets a little worried....because there's a BABY CRYING.

If the TV is off, though, and she notices her reflection, she gets a little weirded out by this other dog in the room that she can't actually smell or interact with.

  7. LOL.  I think we were in the minority of people who didn't watch that other game going on Sunday. ;)

  8. Bella was being very good here, too.  She is not usually so well behaved watching other dogs on the TV.  :)

  9. We have to be careful with Bella's television viewing (good grief, I sound like a parent) as she tends to get a bit over-excited when real dogs are on.  Guess she was okay with these because they were just puppies.

  10. Oh I hear that.  We've actually had to desensitize Bella to dogs on the big screen TV downstairs.  She pretty much tries to attack the screen - not cute or funny.  I think she was okay with this because the screen was small and the dogs were just puppies.

  11. Aww, Elka wants to save the baby.  Sweet.

Bella gave us a few laughs when she first saw herself in the mirror.  Sounds like Elka's not alone there.  My neighbor's Golden attacks herself in their fireplace doors, too.  Kind of crazy.

  12. We're there with that minority that didn't watch TV last Sunday. But, Sage sometimes reacts to a dog on the TV, but usually her interest doesn't last long.

  13. Hey Bella,

I was worried that your tail was gonna wag itself off it was wagging so much buddy!!

    Glad you had fun,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  14. We've actually had to work with Bella to tame her reaction to dogs on television.  It was either that or never watch Animal Planet ever again lest she take out the big screen tv. ;)

  15. :)  We hear that a lot.  For a scared-y dog, her tail seldom stops.

  16. Aww! Her tail certainly was a'waggin'!

JF and Dewi didn't see Puppy Bowl this year, but they did see a few commercial dog actors. Well, JF did. Dewi doesn't react to anything on TV, which is fine, because JF barks at the "impostors" loud enough for the both of them. :)

  17. aww, bella's so damn cute! it always amazes me that dogs react so much to other dogs that are not real (like their reflections, stuffed animals, statues) and dogs on the TV. i don't think the fascination will ever go away.

  18. Puppy Bowl is one of the few programs that makes me regret not having a television. Fortunately, my sister has given me some of the Puppy Bowl DVDs. I think I should sit down to watch one of them with Honey. She's the first dog I've had who likes watching dogs on a screen. I bet she'll love it.

Bella is a smart girl to recognize the puppies on the television screens. So many dogs don't make the connection at all.

  19. Yeah, I'll spare you all the "attack the TV" version she does when the dogs are grown up and stick with the tail waggin' fascination of puppies instead. :]

There were a slew of dog-related commercials this year, weren't there?  (Maybe they realized they're losing their audience during commercials to the Puppy Bowl and tried to make up for it? ;)  You tell 'em, JF!

  20. Bella's insanely perceptive with things like that.  My old Lab barely reacted to anything (we have a few stories I'll have to share someday) but Bella is all over everything - her first experience with a mirror was fascinating.  And lasted for days. :o

  21. The Puppy Bowls are cute - they've gotten better over time with the addition of the Kitty Halftime Show and the pig pep squad, etc.  Lots to ooh and ahhh over.  You'll get a kick out of them - and Honey will LOVE them.  :)

We are still surprised with what Bella will pick up on - heck, she recognizes *cartoon* dogs as dogs on the television, never mind real ones.  But not all her reactions are this pleasant.  It's actually kind of neat now that I think about it - we have a reactive dog training tool in our basement that we can totally control. :]  Hadn't ever really thought of it that way before...  Hmmm.  Thanks for the that!
