Notes from Home - 12.04.2008

It's been a while since we've had an installment in our "Notes from Home" collection. With winter approaching, we were learning some new things about our 'hot-blooded' pup.

December 4, 2008

Jan: The dog is curled up on the bed.

Just for jollies, I wrapped her in the heavy blanket earlier.

Thirty minutes later, she is still snuggled under the blanket.

What did you expect? I'm from Puerto Rico and you people have SNOW here!

Wait, where ya' going? My shoulder's untucked... Come back! Please?

Thanks to Alfie, Snoopy, Luna and My Brown Newfies for bringing us the Monday Mischief Pet Blog Hop. Make sure you hop on through to the other blogs and see what trouble our various critters can get into over the weekend.

  4. Stewie can totally relate to this photo.  He dislikes the cold winter weather since he has such short hair.  He tends to curl up in a blankie to stay warm most of the day.  That or wear a sweater.  He's a summer guy.

Isn't it fun to look back on photos from other years?

  5. Oh don't you worry, Roscoe, Bella is very, very good at "telling" us what she wants! (I've never had so vocal a dog - it's charming but oh my dog, it takes some getting used to. :)

  6. Hi Nola,

I think you're closer to Bella's kind of weather. ;)  Actually, I have to admit, she's surprisingly fond of the snow.  She even gets a nice thick, and oh so soft, winter coat.

  7. Hey you - don't give her any ideas - this dog is spoiled enough. ;)

  8. It's funny, I would have expected Bella to be a real summer girl but she's not so much.  She can get chilled easily (spring and fall are more problematic than winter) but once the heat is on in the house, she likes to go for refreshing romps in the snow.  (As long as she can come back in and curl up under the blankets again. ;)

Bella's whole blog, at this point, is a reflection of her past and it's been wonderful to relive the details.  I do wish we had actual puppy pictures of her but she still seems pretty small in these early ones compared to where she is now.

PS - Bella says to give Stewie some kisses for her - she thinks he's a real cutie. ;)

  9. Ah, poor Bella - I wish I could reach, I'd tuck you in little pup!!  You need a big fluffy coat like mine! :)

Hope you're having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  15. BOL - it is nice to hear others have vocal dogs.

My Lab only made noise when there was something very significant happening (like when someone was trying to steal the bike off our front porch..)

Bella, on the other hand, will sit behind me while I'm working and "mumble" because I'm not paying attention to her!  And bark? Dog almighty, not useful watchdog here - she barks at leaves falling in the yard. :(

I'm beginning to think there's a blog post in here somewhere... ;)

  16. Hi Snoopy! You're so sweet to offer.  You have an excellent coat for cool weather but Bella wants to know how you survive the heat in the summer?  (She's getting a nice thick winter coat these days but that first winter was pretty 'ruff'. ;)

  17. Speaking of nice thick coats for winter weather!

I should have told you this earlier but, because Bella is so afraid of (yet in love with) other dogs, whenever we attend dog events, we almost exclusively seek out the Newfies in attendance to allow her a meet and greet because we trust that she will have a good experience with them. (Great Danes tend to be good greeters for her as well.)

    I just adore your breed.

  18. LOL - I didn't realize Greyhounds needed the coats and blankets until my friend, Cindy, rescued one.  Not only do you guys have no meat on your bones, you have no warm winter coat either!  Cindy's girl Molly even sleeps in PJs.  It's very, very cute.

  19. Hi Alfie! I think you and Bella should meet someday (if she ever gets to England, we'll be sure to look you up ;) because you two (too) cute kids would look so adorable together - especially snuggled up under a blanket.  :)

  20. Hi!  Yeah, I think Bella just likes being 'under stuff' more than she's trying to keep warm.  If she's not under her blankets, she's hiding under the leaves of our house plants.   Go figure.  :)

    Thanks for visiting!

  21. Yeah we are kind of skinny but cuddly at the same time! Mum said she got a greyhound in the hope that she would grow to look like her dog, but it's never quite worked. Hehe! Deccy x

  22. LOL - okay, that made laugh.  Since Bella's has grown more in my direction than I did in hers, I think I need to seriously hit the treadmill before I find myself writing about the dangers of overweight pets. ;)

(Oh and I have never considered skinny and cuddly mutually exclusive - I'd love to give you a big cuddle someday!)

  23. Frankie totally knows where you're coming from, Bella.  He is the one who sleeps under the blankets (mine!) here.  Beryl gives out a lot of body heat and doesn't need as much keeping warm as he does!  She does still wear coats in the winter and has got 4 I think.

Beryl hardly barks at all, she leaves it to Frankie and he doesn't bark enough to annoy the neighbours:)  He likes to have conversations with me and Beryl does like Bella, mumbles and grumbles when she wants attention and I'm busy on the computer.  She can even be in another room and I hear the grumbling start:)  It's so cute I have to go give her a cuddle!

  24. Leroy would love to greet her!! He is just amazed by smaller dogs and he is very gentle with them!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha - oh yeah, I'm familiar with the mumbling from the other room routine, too! The room next to my office is a bedroom so Bella often times will be up on the bed in there (yeah, she's allowed on the furniture - talk to her father...) and I can hear these little grumbles filtering through across the hallway.  I usually take her advice that I've spent too much time on the computer and go take her for a walk or, as you say, just go give her a cuddle. It's too adorable to resist.

I'm really surprised that Beryl is the "hot dog", so to speak, and it's Frankie who doesn't like the cold - it's really endearing to think of big, strong Frankie snuggled up under the blankets. ;)

  26. Bella, in a way, LOVES other dogs but she's also afraid of them so she can get in over her head with her enthusiasm (when dogs get too enthusiastic back).  I think that's why Newfies and Danes are so good for her - they just don't seem to get too overly excited.  Mostly they just kind of gaze down at her like they're thinking 'what are you doing you crazy little beast?' ;)
